Application Materials

CWS is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the credentialing body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (Formerly the National Organization for Competency Assurance)

NOTE: All application materials must arrive at the AAWM together in the same envelope by the application deadline.

NOTE: Effective April 10, 2010, AAWM no longer requires academic transcripts for the CWS Application.

Candidates for Board Certification in wound management must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have a Bachelors Degree or higher in a life sciences related field

  • Three (3) years of clinical experience in wound care

  • Designated professions (MD,DO,DPM,RN,PA,PT,OT,DMD,VMD)
  1. Completed Application with all fields filled in with biographical  information including social security number.
  2. Provide a professional resume or curriculum vitae.
  3. Provide a detailed written description of 3 years of clinical wound care experience and direct patient care. *this must be separate document from the resume.
  4. Copies of professional licenses and board certifications.
  5. Three letters from professional references sealed in original envelops. Letters should discuss wound care knowledge, skills, and expertise, and must document the required years of experience.
  6. Read the AAWM code of ethics, and sign the statement on the application form, affirming adherence to this code.
  7. Complete, in pencil, the Testing Center application form.
  8. Payment for the required fee.
  9. Complete the checklist form by initialing next to each application item.

All application materials must arrive at the AAWM together in the same envelope by the application deadline. Packets that arrive with materials missing will be returned, thus delaying the application. Fedex and USPS certified mail is recommended. It is the soul responsibility of the candidate to ensure that all application materials arrive by the deadline.

The AAWM Candidate Handbook is a 13 page handbook that included in your CWS Application Packet, which features information about the exam, testing sites, sample questions, and general information about the AAWM. Everything you need to know about the exam is included in this handbook.

Retest Forms: All application materials must arrive at the AAWM together in the same envelop by the application deadline. Faxes will not be accepted.

  1. The Re-test form is for individuals who failed their exam and request to re-take the CWS test at the next scheduled examination.
  2. The Testing Center application form is also required. This form is used to set up your testing site.
